Overview
This 15-day tour focuses heavily on Sri Lanka's national parks, rainforests, and remote natural sites. The itinerary includes multiple safaris, starting with Wilpattu National Park in the northwest and Minneriya National Park in the north-central province. You will also spend a day with the indigenous Vedda community in Mahiyangana to learn about their traditional lifestyle.
Emerald Sri Lanka Tours has organized several camping nights and treks for this package, including stays in the Riverston area, Ohiya, and an island in the Maduganga river. You will hike the Horton Plains, trek through the dense Sinharaja Rainforest, and visit coastal spots like Galle and Hikkaduwa for marine activities.
Arrive at the Bandaranaike International Airport, where you will be welcomed with a wild flower garland. Transfer to a hotel in Negombo to check in and rest.
Spend the morning on a bird-watching excursion in the Muthurajawela wetlands. After breakfast, travel to Wilpattu and take an evening jeep safari in Wilpattu National Park, known for its leopard population. Stay overnight in Wilpattu.
Travel toward Minneriya, stopping to explore the Ritigala sanctuary. In the afternoon, take a jeep safari in Minneriya National Park to observe the gathering of wild elephants, before heading to Sigiriya for an overnight stay.
Climb Pidurangala Rock early in the morning for a sunrise view. In the evening, visit the Sigiriya Rock Fortress to watch the sunset. Spend another night in Sigiriya.
Travel toward Kandy after breakfast, stopping at a Matale spice garden to learn about local herbs and spices. In the evening, head to the Riverston area in Pitawalapathana for a night of camping.
Early in the morning, visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy. Afterward, travel to Mahiyangana to spend the day with the indigenous Vedda people, exploring Sorabora Lake, participating in village cooking, and watching a cultural dance. Proceed to Ella for your overnight stay.
Hike up Ella Rock for views of the surrounding valleys. Later, explore the Ravana Cave Temple and the Ravana Ella Falls before a second overnight stay in Ella.
Travel to Ohiya. Explore Yakage Padipela and the Nildiya Pokuna cave pool. Conclude the day by camping in Ohiya.
Take an early morning (5:00 AM) trek through Horton Plains National Park. Afterward, visit Babaragala Waterfall before traveling to Nuwara Eliya for an overnight stay.
Spend the day relaxing in the highland climate of Nuwara Eliya, viewing its colonial architecture and gardens. Enjoy another night in Nuwara Eliya.
Travel south to Deniyaya. Trek through the Sinharaja Rainforest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with endemic flora and fauna. Spend the night in the Sinharaja area.
Depart the rainforest and travel to the coastal city of Galle. Spend the day exploring the city and walking the ramparts of the Galle Dutch Fort. Stay overnight in Galle.
Journey to Bentota, where you can experience kite surfing on the beach. Take a Maduganga boat safari and participate in fish therapy, followed by camping and a BBQ on Maduganga Island.
After breakfast, visit the Hikkaduwa coral beach to observe marine life. Travel toward Colombo, stopping to explore the Beddagana Wetland Park. Check into your hotel for your final night in Colombo.
Conclude your wildlife tour with a departure transfer from Colombo Airport.
